With deep sorrow, I join the good people of Mgbidi Ancient Kingdom in mourning the painful departure of His Royal Majesty, Igwe P.D. Uzochukwu, Eze Udo 1 of Mgbidi Ancient Kingdom, who will be laid to rest on 22/5/26.
Before ascending the throne, HRH Igwe P.D. Uzochukwu was a respected career educator and school administrator, fondly remembered as a dedicated teacher, Headmaster, strong disciplinarian, and great mentor to many young people in Mgbidi community. He was my Headmaster during my primary school days and later honoured me with the title of Adaejiejemba na Mgbidi Kingdom, a privilege I will forever cherish.
He was a peaceful, kind-hearted, and selfless leader who devoted his life to the unity, education, and progress of his people. He reigned for 38 remarkable years, from 1987 to late 2025, making him one of the longest-reigning monarchs in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. He sadly passed away just 24 hours before his 90th birthday as the oldest reigning king in his constituency.
Though his departure is deeply painful and he will be greatly missed, we are comforted by the lasting legacy of peace, wisdom, honour, and service he left behind.
May God console his family and the entire Mgbidi community as we mourn this great monarch. May the good Lord receive his gentle soul and grant him eternal rest in perfect peace.
