One wonders what it truly takes, in a civilised society governed by laws and decorum, to bring two reckless men to order. For decades, Femi Fani-Kayode and Reno Omokri have turned public discourse into a personal sewer of slander, libel and quidnuncs, hurling mud at any Nigerian figure who dares disagree with them at the whim of their fancy. As a golden jubilee celebrant Nigerian who has watched every twist and turn of our politics, I declare without hesitation that every negative smear, every evil mud rubbed on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the years originated from the keyboards and mouths of these very two men. Today they proudly deny their own words, rewriting history as if memory itself can be deleted like a tweet. They are not mere political actors; they are evil men who lie and deny at whim and caprice. They are demons in human skin—the worst type of blackmailers—whose only consistency is their inconsistency.
Their antecedents expose them fully. Femi Fani-Kayode once led the media war for President Goodluck Jonathan, viciously attacking Tinubu as unfit, corrupt and worse. Reno Omokri, as presidential aide, amplified the same bile, branding Tinubu a “drug baron” and “dictator” in open letters and viral posts. Both men built careers on denigrating the very leader they now worship. Yet when Dele Momodu, in measured tones, merely accused Tinubu of dictatorship—an accusation rooted in the painful memory of military tyranny that robbed Chief Moshood Abiola of his mandate—the duo pounced like hyenas.
Femi Fani-Kayode’s recent vituperation titled “STILL ON DELE MOMODU” is a masterpiece of hypocrisy and bile. He claims politeness while calling Dele “unhinged,” “a shadow of his former self,” and destined to “crawl back into the hole” by 2027. He mocks Dele’s physique, suggests he return to “shining shoes” and taking photographs for a living, and warns of giving him “plenty to write about” if he crosses the line. This is not political rebuttal; it is gutter language from a man who once called Tinubu far harsher names. Femi boasts he “will never deny” his past yet admits he was “wrong” only after joining the APC in 2021 and fighting for Tinubu in 2023. How convenient! He forgets that Dele Momodu never disparaged Tinubu personally—never called him murderer or addict—unlike the duo who did exactly that for years.
Dele Momodu’s response, “Reno Omokri & Femi Fani-Kayode: A Tale Of Two Shameless Friends,” says it all. These men have expressed the worst views about Tinubu—views they can never erase. Their brains are “configured to say anything and delete immediately.” Tinubu tolerates them only out of desperation, unable to find better minds for dirty jobs. Dele rightly notes he stopped his Pendulum column out of respect for Tinubu and Yoruba elders, yet these nincompoops harass critics on behalf of the very man they permanently damaged.
They are nincompoops who do not know when to stop. They imagine they still command an audience, yet they do not even know themselves. The worst scandal of our democracy is appointing such diplomatic designates to frontline roles. It is like wearing rags and a pig’s head to a Buckingham Palace state dinner—utter disgrace to Nigeria’s image. How, in God’s name, do such bad things keep happening to Nigeria? Why must we repeatedly elevate men whose only talent is blackmail and flip-flop?
Femi and Reno must be told: the era of unchecked slander is over. Civilised society demands accountability. Nigeria deserves better than demons in diplomatic robes.
