A Call to Wisdom: Why Paul Chukwuma Should Honourably Step Down for the Greater Good of Anambra‎‎ – By Clem Aguiyi

‎‎Email: totalpolitics@ymail.com ‎‎Let me begin by stating that I have come to know Paul Chukwuma far back in time when he was at the Holy Ghost Juniorate Ihiala, and I was then at St Peter Claver Seminary Okpala. Our schools compete in sports. Our encounter then was casual. When we later met many years apart , his face struck me, and I immediately recalled that this was a face I knew. Now a grown and successful man , he didn’t change much. He remains a humble man and very warm and friendly. I have great respect for him and am proud of his accomplishments. ‎‎My advice may be unsolicited, but it’s an advice borne out of true love and friendship.‎‎Politics, at its highest level, is not a reckless contest of ego or ambition—it is the exercise of wisdom guided by the rhythm of the people’s collective destiny. Mr. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has demonstrated uncommon courage by stepping forward to participate in the current governorship race. His passion for leadership and public service deserves commendation. Yet, as a concerned citizen of Anambra State who wishes to see our politics remain structured, stable, and forward-looking, I humbly appeal to him to tow the civilized line and shut down his campaign in the overall interest of our state and his own political longevity.‎‎The truth, however bitter, must be told: Mr. Chukwuma has no realistic path to victory in the forthcoming election. Politics is a game of numbers, and the numbers in Anambra are neither abstract nor sentimental—they are rooted in zoning, geography, and political culture. Every successful governorship project in Anambra since 1999 has respected this unwritten code of fairness and rotation. It is now the turn of Anambra South, ably represented by the incumbent, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Any campaign that disregards this reality automatically alienates the political mainstream and risks being perceived as an act of political insensitivity.‎‎Mr. Chukwuma’s campaign, noble as it may seem, has lacked the required steam and public momentum. Beyond digital posters and scattered rallies, there is no genuine groundswell of voter enthusiasm or structure capable of translating into electoral victory. Even within his own party, YPP, the machinery appears uncoordinated, with more loyalists hedging their bets elsewhere. It would therefore be an act of wisdom, not weakness, for him to take stock now rather than continue pouring resources into a campaign whose destination is already known.‎‎True political greatness is not defined by how long one stays in the race, but by how wisely one chooses when to bow out. If Mr. Chukwuma channels his courage into supporting APGA’s candidate, Professor Soludo, he will not only strengthen the fabric of zoning and fairness in Anambra politics, but also earn himself the respect of the electorate as a man who puts the state’s peace and progress above personal ambition. In the politics of tomorrow, that singular act of maturity will open doors far beyond the temporary excitement of contestation.‎‎Moreover, Paul Chukwuma’s political energy and network can be better preserved for a more strategic outing. He remains young, vibrant, and capable of making a formidable impact in the next cycle, when power is expected to return to the North. Between now and then, he could align with APGA and pursue a senatorial bid—a race where his influence, intellect, and resources would find genuine expression and build his credentials as a serious, respected political leader‎‎Politics and war strategies share very common similarities, though distinct. In both, the mark of true leadership is knowing when to advance and when to retreat with honour. For Mr. Paul Chukwuma, that time is now. Wisdom demands that he step back, preserve his political capital, and stand with APGA in the spirit of unity and progress. The future will remember him kindly for choosing prudence over pride and peace over pointless ambition.
